Porcelain Crowns (caps)
Are you interested in improving your smile? With all porcelain crowns, you can achieve the smile you've always wanted in as little as two visits.
A crown (or cap) is a covering that encases the entire tooth, restoring it to its ideal shape and size. In addition to improving its appearance, a crown protects and strengthens a tooth that cannot be restored with fillings or other types of restorations.
Although there are several types of crowns, porcelain (tooth colored crowns) are the most popular, because they resemble your natural teeth. Porcelain crowns are highly durable and and will allow you to achieve a natural, long-lasting beautiful smile.
Reasons for crowns:
- Broken or fractured teeth.
- Cosmetic enhancement.
- Decayed teeth.
- Fractured fillings.
- Large fillings.
- Tooth has a root canal.
What does getting a crown involve?
The procedure usually requires two appointments. While the tooth is numb, the dentist will prepare the tooth by removing any decay and shaping the surface to properly fit the crown. He will also take a highly accurate mold (or impression) that will be sent to a dental laboratory which will fabricate your custom crown. This process generally takes about two weeks, and in the meantime, you will wear a temporary crown. At your second appointment your temporary crown will be removed, and your new crown will be carefully placed to ensure the spacing and bite are accurate.
Porcelain Veneers
If nature didn't give you a perfect smile, now you can achieve one in as little as two visits. Veneers are very thin pieces of durable, tooth shaped porcelain that are bonded to the front of teeth. Veneers can completely reshape your teeth and transform your smile.
Reasons for porcelain veneers:
- Cosmetically, to create a uniform, white, beautiful smile.
- Broken or chipped teeth
- Severely discolored or stained teeth.
- Teeth that are too small or large.
- Unwanted or uneven spaces.
- Crooked teeth.
What does getting porcelain veneers involve?
The procedure usually requires two visits. The teeth are prepared by shaping their surface to allow for the added thickness of the veneer. A mold or impression of the teeth is taken and a shade (color) will then be chosen by you and the dentist. The veneers will be custom made for you by a dental laboratory in a process that takes approximately two weeks. Finally, you will return to the office and the veneers will be bonded to your teeth.
